Can anybody tell me if it is possible to port a Vonage Canada number to another VOIP provider?

I have read elsewhere that Vonage Canada (as opposed to Vonage U.S.) does not port out its numbers, but those posts are quite old.

Vonage Canada is just too expensive and the plans pale in comparison to U.S. Offerings. I can do far better with other providers.

this Sunday will be my 7th anniversary with Vonage. I got rid of POTS and switched solely to Vonage on 3-7-03 and never looked back, bringing nine of my friends/relatives along for the ride as Vonage referrals... some of whom are going on their 6th year themselves!!! I can't imagine all the moolah I've saved from Verizon/AT&T over those years. Couldn't be happier... and now here's to another 7 years... and more!

My V-Portal is sending out something to the internet approximately every 20 seconds when the phone is not in use. Is that something that is normal? I have my router in front of my V-Portal.

But is it true porting out is difficult and has a charge? Or was it canceling your account has a charge?

Here's the setup:

Cable Internet to a DLink DCM202, out to a WR214E router. There are 3 ports in use on the router, plus the wireless. One CAT5 goes directly to a cabin on the property, another to a Linksys wireless router providing access to the rear of the property and a third to a Linksys PAP2 adapter for the Vonage service. Since about 11 AM this morning, Incoming calls not received on my vonage number here in Seattle's 206 area code.

MoMost attempts to connect to number result in rapid busy.

If I don't get the rapid busy, there is a recorded message.

"ALL CIRCUITS ARE BUSY Announcement 866 DASH 8".

I have tried to call vonage twice and each time after 30 minutes of waiting gave up on those S.O.B.'s

Looking at the Vonage Quick Start guide for the V-portal, I see that it is recommended that it be plugged directly into the broadband modem, with the home router then plugged into the V-portal.

However, ATT uses a combo modem/router for their DSL and U-verse services. (I currently have DSL, and am planning on upgrading to U-verse shortly.)

Can the V-portal be used if plugged into one of the wired LAN ports of the modem/router? ...

Is it possible to start a Vonage account using a new, Vonage-provided phone number, then, if I decide to keep the service, port over my POTS number, replacing the Vonage number?

Just wanted to take a moment to write about Vonage's cool Click2Call feature and the iPhone apps based on this feature. I really love this feature and there are many widgets, utilities out there that use this feature. This is a pretty old feature of Vonage, but I was surprised to see there weren't any good iPhone apps until a few months back. There are a few now.
